Oscar’s Dock
In Saint Paul Harbor. Named for noted late fisherman Oscar Dyson. Can also mean the spit in general.
North Pacific Fishery Management Council
Sets federal fishery parameters, such as catch limits, seasons, etc. for the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea. Notice it’s “fishery,” not “fisheries.” Don’t ask me (Jay Barrett) why. The council on second reference.
Navy SEALs
The U.S. Navy’s special forces. They have a cold weather training base here in Kodiak, taking up all of Spruce Cape.
National Marine Fisheries Service
NMFS, pronounced “nymphs,” is acceptable on second reference. Also known as NOAA Fisheries. They enforce federal fishing laws.
Native Village of Afognak
The federally recognized tribe for the descendants of Afognak Island.
