The forecast for boaters. Some of the terms and abbreviations are:

FT = feet, a measure of wave height

KTS = knots, a measure of speed in nautical miles per hour

MB = millibar, a measure of barometric pressure. Generally, the lower the number, the stormier the weather.

Weather advisories in order of increasing severity and wind speeds:

small craft advisory — 25 to 38 mph (22 to 33 knots)

gale warning — 39 to 54 mph (34 to 47 knots)

storm warning — 55 to 73 mph (48 to 63 knots)

hurricane warning — over 73 mph (over 64 knots)
