“The road” is a common local expression for the main road artery in communities off the road system or at the end of the road system. For non-locals’ sakes, avoid on first reference.
For example, in Juneau, “the road” refers to Egan Drive/Glacier Highway. “Out the road” refers to the least developed parts of Glacier Highway farthest from downtown, beginning roughly where the Auke Bay area ends.
